December 2005

Mitch Meyerson and Michael Port, creators of the highly-acclaimed Product Factory have done it again.

They just announced their highly-anticipated program for 2006:

TRAFFIC SCHOOL

THE ULTIMATE WEB TRAFFIC AND CONVERSION SYSTEM

www.TrafficSchoolSystem.com

I’ve spoken personally with Michael. He’s given me the Traffic School promise. As a graduate of Traffic School you will:

-> Drive targeted web traffic to your site and consistently turn it into paying customers

-> Increase your web traffic conversion rate so potential clients become current clients

-> Put your web traffic generation and conversion system on cruise control

How does that sound? I think it sounds like the most important thing you can do for your business in 2006.

And the best part, I know what Mitch and Michael’s programs are like. They are always dynamic and fun—filled with heart and soul—and, of course, networking and relationship building opportunities.

Mitch promised me that they are going to demystify advanced traffic strategies. His exact words were, ‘...with such clarity and simplicity you’ll feel like you’ve had your web traffic license for years.’

Do you set resolutions every year, only to leave them behind within a few days (or hours!)? I was like that, until I learned to set GOALS instead.

When we set resolutions, they’re usually pretty vague.

“I resolve to lose weight.”

“I resolve to get out of debt.”

“I resolve to work harder.”

It’s difficult to see any progress with such non-specific ideas.

Goals aren’t vague. They’re specific and measurable.

“My goal is to lose 10 pounds by February 5th by sticking to a 1600-day calorie limit and exercising 30 minutes 4 times a week.”

“My goal is to pay off my Visa card by May 1st, by putting the card away where I can’t use it and paying an extra $100 per month on the balance.”

“My goal is to get 5 new clients by March 1st, by writing one article a week and submitting it to article directories, by calling local organizations and offering to give talks on career issues and by giving two free tele-classes.”

See the difference? Specific and measurable.

If you’re like most peopole, though, you have trouble setting and keeping goals. That’s why I’m recommending Goals 2006—a SUPER program that will get you started off on the right foot.

According to Purdue University, it’s not only important to have written goals, but you must have a plan to reach your goals. Goals 2006 is the complete program to help you “create a life on purpose.” Will 2006 be just another ho-hum year that started with good intentions? Or will it be YOUR Year! Your year to lose that weight you’re tired of carrying…start that business you’ve been talking about…get out of debt for good.

Are you tired of being stuck in the same gear? Go see why one program graduate, Lucy O. said, “Breaking through, or at least finally recognizing, what my barrier is with writing goals, is a MAJOR accomplishment – one I’ve been trying to find for over 15 years! And I finally got it – I GOT IT!”

2006 is YOUR
Year and it all starts here!

Along with lights, trees and presents, it’s the time of year for the dreaded “office party”.

Inc.com has a great slide-show that explains everything you need to know about how to navigate our way through the annual office party. Click here to see the slide show.

Everyone worries about interviews—the people conducting them, and the people being interviewed. An interview is not usually a fun time, and yet it’s the main key as to whether someone gets hired or not.

In “The Color of Money“, her Washington Post column, Michelle Singletary talks about interviewing and recommends a new book, “Monster Careers: Interviewing : Master the Moment That Gets You the Job” by Jeffrey Taylor and Doug Hardy.

This book is a departure from standard do’s and don’t of interviewing. It tells real stories of interviews gone wrong and interviews saved. There’s a very valuable section of tips and strategies directly from Human Resource professionals about interviewing. “Monster Careers: Interviewing” is a valuable addition to any career or management library.

You can read the article here, and order the book below.

Do you act like a “girl” at work? And what does that mean, exactly?

A recent article at Inc got me thinking about how women are portrayed in the media and how we act in real life. What does being a strong, professional woman look like?

We’re exposed to a lot of conflicting images about women every day and it’s not always easy to sort out our reactions to them.

I belong to an online mystery group and a recent discussion centered around the TV show NCIS. One of the group members offered that she liked the new character Ziva , except that she wished that Zima didn’t have to “act like a man” to be seen as strong. Now, I’m a big NCIS fan and I hadn’t noticed Ziva doing anything especially “mannish”, except wearing cargo pants, and I thought we got over all that a long time ago. I posted a note to the group asking for clarification to the “acting like a man” statement and didn’t get anything except a reference to Diana Rigg in The Avengers.

Well, really. God knows, we’d all like to be Mrs. Peel but isn’t that setting the bar a little high?

So, what does being a strong woman mean in today’s world, and in today’s business climate? Drop me a line and let me know your thoughts.
